This
course is designed to develop an understanding of mostly American Literature.
o
During
the course of the year, we will look at famous authors and works, as well as add
film, writing, and oral communication skills into our classroom goals.
o
In
addition to our textbook, we will also explore dramas, poetry, short stories,
and novels by selected authors that go along with the topics we will study.
ý
Junior
year is also the year of The Research Project.
Each student will produce one major project that has been researched,
documented, and “published” on some aspect of American culture and/or
literature. This assignment will finish
with an oral presentation of your findings.
ý
To
find success in this course, first - - - be ready to write.
o
We
will focus on single-paragraph short essays and lengthier papers.
o
We
will work with structure, organization, sophisticated language, varied
sentences, and strong mechanics.
o
All
of this work will help prepare you for the future as well as for the upcoming
ACT.
ý
It
will be important for you to keep an electronic folder of everything we do in this
class.
o
This
includes copies of papers you write, notes on literature, any handouts,
etc.
o
Skill
building is an process which should not be thrown out after learning.
o
If you have questions about previously covered
skills or information, it is your responsibility to go back and try to discover
the answers for yourself.
ý Keep a Folder in
DRIVE and name it Junior English. We will teach you how to organize. It’s time
to get your lives organized, people!!
ý
Finally,
the use of technology will be an important component to this course.
o
You
will submit drafts of papers through Google Classroom for review.
o
We
will employ a class blog for discussion and discovery purposes.
o
We
will use Classroom for reminders, announcements, and the occasional deep
thought.
